I’m Sumit Kumar, a software engineer passionate about building automation-first, scalable backend systems that make data and workflows run seamlessly. I specialize in designing systems that reduce manual effort, improve data accuracy, and deliver measurable efficiency at scale.
Today I architect Salsify PIM integrations and ETL pipelines that power digital commerce across 80+ global markets. Before that, I spent four years building automation, OCR, and API integration systems for e-commerce clients — see Experience for the full timeline.
A minor in Security and Risk Analysis keeps me building platforms that are not only fast and reliable but also secure and risk-aware.

Work History
Senior Software Developer
Stanley Black & Decker (Contract via Kforce)
- Own end-to-end architecture and configuration of the Salsify PIM platform (data models, workflows, channel mappings), serving as the technical backbone for digital commerce operations across 20+ brand sites and 80+ global markets.
- Architect and build ETL pipelines to transform and validate 300K+ product records for system-to-system data transfer, enforcing data integrity and validation rules across ERP, PIM, and downstream CMS/database targets.
- Design and implement secure JSON/XML API integrations connecting Salsify with internal systems (ERPs, company-owned databases, brand website CMS platforms) to power product content delivery at scale.
- Built and deployed a SmartCat–Salsify integration enabling in-platform content translation and review/approval workflows, streamlining localization across international markets.
- Partner with the platform team on configuration deployments and data validation across Salsify DEV and PROD environments, applying Agile practices to ensure reliable, high-quality releases.
Systems Engineer II (promoted from Systems Engineer I, Sept 2023)
Gournay Consulting
- Engineered scalable data ingestion pipelines and backend connectors for high-volume product and asset metadata into platforms like Salsify, improving sync speed and reliability for enterprise clients.
- Built cloud-native systems on Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Functions, BigQuery, Firebase) to automate e-commerce workflows, generate insights, and manage infrastructure with minimal manual intervention.
- Developed custom tooling and validators to monitor and transform incoming data for packaging OCR systems, improving data accuracy and cutting manual review time.
- Automated reporting and dashboard generation pipelines, integrating Monday.com and Salsify to surface real-time operational metrics.
- Led end-to-end architecture and implementation of a Mobile Hero Image system, cutting production time from hours to under 20 minutes.
- Implemented secure token-based authentication (OAuth, OIDC) across all integrations, ensuring compliance and data protection.
- Mentored junior engineers, collaborated across product, data, and client teams to design solutions and troubleshoot edge cases, and served as team manager since Sept 2023 alongside core engineering duties.

Full-stack learning platform for teachers and students
A full-stack education platform where teachers publish study material — PDFs, Word docs, spreadsheets, and YouTube lessons — for students to preview or edit directly in the browser, gated behind a teacher-approval workflow with public or invite-only access control. Also includes a timed MCQ exam builder with negative marking and a session-persistent timer that tracks only active time on the page. Backed by Supabase for auth, storage, and data.
Flip 7 Online
Full-stack multiplayer web app for the card game Flip 7
A full-stack, real-time multiplayer web app built end-to-end — a fully tested rules engine (deck, busts, Second Chance, Freeze, Flip Three), room-based session management with host/join flows, and Redis-backed shared state that keeps gameplay consistent across Vercel's serverless instances. Includes concurrency-safe per-room locking, host handoff, and self-expiring rooms for abandoned sessions.
Chattr
Real-time lobby chat app with Socket.IO signaling
A real-time chat application supporting multiple independent lobbies, each joined by a shared code, with a Node/Express signaling server driving Socket.IO for live message delivery between connected clients. Built as the foundation for a WebRTC peer-to-peer audio/video layer, with the signaling groundwork already in place. Currently in active development, not yet deployed.
